Easy Ways
to Get Involved

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” -Psalm 147:3

I Want to Help a Child or Family

Saying “Yes” is the first step to supporting vulnerable children and families. Your “Yes”, matters and has the potential impact to change the trajectory of a child’s life. Whether that’s mentoring, providing respite care for foster parents, tutoring, becoming a Guardian ad litem (GAL), or providing meals for foster families–whatever speaks to your heart–will make the largest impact.
You Can be a Mentor

“A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself.” — Oprah Winfrey

Mentorship is vital right now for children and teens in our community. Often, a child placed in foster care who is not reunited with their family or unable to obtain permanency, will age out of the system of care without the resources and support that they need, to pursue their passions and dreams as an adult. Stepping up as the person who walks alongside them in their journey, can alter their entire future forever.

You Can be a Respite Caregiver

Respite care simply means you are giving the primary caregiver (in this case, the foster parent) a short break.  You might play with the child for a few hours at the park while they attend an appointment, or babysit a child during a short-term overnight stay. Regardless of the amount of time you provide respite care, any time given to a foster parent is a gift.  Foster parents experience frequent burn out, and respite caregivers provide refreshment, so that they can continue on with their mission.

A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.

-Proverbs 11:25

You Can be a Guardian ad Litem

A Guardian ad Litem (GAL) has a very special role in a child’s life while they are in the system of care.  A GAL advocates on the child’s behalf in court during their case plan and provides a powerful voice and perspective in court.  Are you considering being the voice to a child in need?

You Can Wraparound a Family

Are you willing to resource your gifts and talents to a family in need? It can be as simple as providing a weekly meal, mowing a lawn, tutoring a child, or partnering with an organization where you best see fit. The idea is that each family has the hope to endure and continue– day in and day out, because they have the support and resources to do so.

You can be that hope.
